AIGA, founded in 1914, is the oldest and largest membership association for professionals engaged in the discipline, practice and culture of visual communication, graphic design and now the emerging field of experience design. AIGA is open to the exciting and rapid changes occurring in design, yet is definitive in its promotion of the highest professional standards working within the design disciplines. This combination of openness and authority is what attracts the largest student membership of any design organization in the world since, for many of the next generation's designers, AIGA members and activities personify their personal aspirations.

AIGA has been transformed from a once-exclusive club to the hub of an active and inquisitive network of professionals. Members of the AIGA include professional designers, educators and students engaged in all of the disciplines of design. AIGA respects the legacy of traditional design disciplines even as it has become the center of the more conceptual, multidimensional and strategic practice of design today.
